Sky Gardens

Garden with Carport

The brief for this project had covered a variety of angles: reclaiming both front garden and courtyard from the grip of the brambles, taking into account the owner's health problems, providing a cohesive scheme that allows the use of the courtyard as car port and garden space, as well as providing a shelter in shape of an open-sided porch. And all of that for about £1000!

Budget constraints and the desire to be in keeping with the style of the Victorian terrace meant that wherever possible, materials such as bricks and paving were reused to provide a permanent seating area and raised planter. And open-sided porch provides shelter and a neat entrance to the kitchen. The carport area is surrounded by planters and light-weight pots, allowing an instant transformation into a larger patio when required. Even on a cold January day the change is spectacular!
